HARRISBURG — Senator Ryan P. Aument (R-36) was appointed this week to serve as Chairman of the Senate Communications and Technology Committee for the 2015-16 legislative session.
In recent years, the committee has explored the deployment of broadband to rural communities, electronic sharing of health records to improve patient care, the impact of data breaches, the use of technology to report and monitor child abusers and the status of planned improvements to the Pennsylvania Statewide Radio Network that is utilized by law enforcement and emergency responders.
“The rapid pace of technological innovation creates unique opportunities for state government, including numerous avenues to better protect our citizens and provide an engine for new economic opportunities and job growth,” Aument said. “I am honored to be given an opportunity to lead the legislature’s efforts to put technological advancements to good use in improving our quality of life.”
Aument was originally appointed last month to serve as Chairman of the Senate Intergovernmental Operations Committee. However, he was asked to take on a new assignment to lead the Senate Communications and Technology Committee due to a caucus-wide reorganization of committee assignments.
“Although I am no longer leading the Intergovernmental Operations committee, I still have every intention of working to ensure our tax dollars are not wasted due to poor management or the organizational structure of government,” Aument said. “Efficiency needs to be a priority, and I look forward to playing a role in studying how we can deliver government programs and services at a lower cost to taxpayers.”
