The Senate Communications & Technology Committee, the Law & Justice Committee and the Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee will hold a joint public hearing on Monday (March 26th) to review issues related to the statewide radio system.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. in Room 8EB of the East Wing of the State Capitol Complex. The hearing will be streamed live at: www.pasenategop.com.
The hearing will feature testimony by the Pennsylvania State Police on Phases 1&2 of the P25 Pilot Program for the Statewide Radio System. Phase 1 consisted of Warren County and Phase 2 consisted of Crawford, Erie and Venango Counties. Representatives from Erie, Venango and Warren Counties will testify at the hearing on their perspectives on the rollout of the new P25 Pilot Program.
Originally created in 1996, the purpose of the statewide radio system, or StarNet, was to replace the state’s aging and incompatible systems with state-of-the art communications technology. The State Police is now taking the lead on implementing Project 25 (P25), which is a set of standards created through joint efforts with the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) and is aimed at achieving interoperability amongst state and local agencies.
