(HARRISBURG) – Senator Ryan Aument (R-Landisville) received official notification from the President Pro Tempore of the Senate today that he has been appointed to serve as the Chairman of the Senate Education Committee for the 2019-2020 legislative session.
“I am thrilled to have this opportunity to lead one of the most important public policy conversations in Pennsylvania today,” said Sen. Aument. “A strong education system is critical to ensuring that all Pennsylvanians reach their full potential and have the opportunity to experience earned success and upward economic mobility.”
“The education committee is the appropriate place to debate, shape, and advance the public policy that we need to promote the success of the next generation of young people,” said Sen. Aument. “If Pennsylvania can become, not just a national, but a global leader in producing a high quality learning environment for all students, it would go a long way towards solving many of the social and economic challenges facing our Commonwealth.”
Sen. Aument noted that there is no shortage of issues facing education, but that he is eager to begin evaluating fair solutions that work for students, parents, and educators alike.
“I look forward to advancing proven education policies that promote post-graduate readiness and prepare students to smoothly transition into the post-secondary endeavor of their choice, whether that be enrolling in college, attending a trade school, or entering the workforce,” said Sen. Aument.
“I am eager to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle so that together we can transform our current system into a world-class model of success.”
Sen. Aument previously served on the Education Committee in the House of Representatives as well as in the Senate, and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the Citadel, a military college in South Carolina.
“I am pleased to appoint Senator Aument to serve as Chair of the Senate Education Committee,” said Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-25). “Throughout his legislative career, Senator Aument has been a strong advocate for education reform and has worked to create a fairer system that paves the way for the success of all Pennsylvania students. I have no doubt that he will bring that same passion and energy to his position as Committee Chairman.”
