This Week’s Survey Question

BACKGROUND

Currently, Pennsylvania’s institutions of higher education receive funding based on need. However, a performance-based funding model for these institutions would consider performance metrics such as graduation rates, retention rates, employment rates and salaries, and other key indicators of success when allocating funding. In other words, colleges and universities would be held accountable for their success – high-performing institutions would be rewarded with funding, and under-performing institutions would not.

Moving to a performance-based funding model would ensure that any funding increases for colleges and universities would reflect whether the taxpayer investments in those institutions are helping to meet Pennsylvania’s economic needs OR providing students with the skills to obtain family-sustaining jobs here in the Commonwealth.
